FOREWORD

I began the journey of writing this book after spending the holiday period of 2022 reflecting on the great leaders that have come into my life. What were the traits that made them effective and what was it that made me believe and had me following them? Conversely, why did I have so many bad leaders in my corporate life and what was it that they did that made me feel so uninspired?

In the global landscape, corporate leadership is increasingly becoming a source of concern, with executives failing to prioritise the well-being of their employees and embracing unethical practices to maximise profits. This has resulted in a lack of trust between workers and management, leading to a decrease in productivity, dissatisfaction among staff, and an overall disruption of organisational culture.

Recently I read a LinkedIn article by a firm that did a study surveying HR departments on the main reason why people left their job. The main reason was due to their “boss”. The headline of this article was “Employees don’t leave companies, they leave managers” and how best to start this book on corporate leadership than this article title.
